Hide, Find, and Read: Reading in New Places

Jul 28, 2014

Finding a good spot to read should be the easy part, right?  Even though finding a spot to read should be easy, no one says it has to be boring!

With Hide, Find, and Read, finding the place to read is the super fun part, but reading the book is the prize.

Hide, Find, and Read is the storm before the calm of reading. It's hide-and-seek to a new level. It's carving out a space to read for friends and discovering new places to read in and around your home.

It's something simple that makes the reading event extra fun and exciting.

The concept is simple: kids hide each other's books, and wherever the book is found is where the person reads.

A few ground rules must be clear before the hiding takes place, or kids will be searching and searching and searching and never find their books.

Consider making these rules:
•    At least half of the book must be visible—no one can find a completely hidden book!
•    The book must be hidden in a spot where someone can actually sit comfortably.
•    Spots change every 15-30 minutes (depending on the kids and what everyone agrees to).

And that's it. Super fun, super simple. Just a great way to get kids moving, thinking, and reading!
