According to the 8th edition of the Scholastic Kids & Family Reading Report, 61 percent of kids say they enjoy summer reading. In fact, 68 percent of kids ages 6-11 are more likely to enjoy summer reading than their older counterparts aged 12-17 (58 percent). Help your child pick out books that let them explore a wide range of genres, as well as page-turning series books that'll set them on a reading marathon.
Start with the hilarious Running in Flip-Flops From the End of the World, the laugh-out-loud second installment to It’s the End of the World and I’m In My Bathing Suit. When twelve-year-old Eddie Gordon Holloway and his friends are left home from the biggest party of the year, they realize that everyone in town has suddenly disappeared. So Eddie and his friends do what any kid would do: have the best day ever! But when the fun goes for hours without any adult supervision, it becomes less fun and a little more unnerving as friendships begin to fracture. Will Eddie be able to bring his friends together again and will they ever get to the beach?
