Write an original, 5-7-5 haiku in an unrhymed style based on the topic below. Then submit the entries here for a chance to win! Open to kids ages 13 and up who are in grades 8–12.

What’s a haiku?

A haiku is a Japanese poem. It has three unrhymed lines of five, seven, and five syllables, and traditionally includes references to an aspect of nature or the seasons.

How will you choose a winner?

All entries will be judged equally on:
  • 1. Responding fully to the topic
  • 2. Spelling and grammar
  • 3. Haiku structure (5-7-5 form)
  • 4. Creativity
