Scholastic Book Fairs Mobile Application Privacy Disclosure

The operators of the Scholastic Book Fairs Mobile Application are Scholastic Book Fairs, Inc., 1080 Greenwood Boulevard, Lake Mary, FL 32746 and Scholastic Inc., 557 Broadway, New York, NY 10012 (collectively, “Scholastic”, “us”, “we” and “our”). We can be reached by phone at 800-SCHOLASTIC and by email at custserv@scholastic.com.

This document describes features and functionality of the app that may collect information from you, our end users. It supplements the Scholastic.com Privacy Policy. If there is a direct conflict between this document and the Scholastic.com Privacy Policy, this document governs.

This app is intended to assist our Scholastic Book Fairs customers by allowing you to search for books or scan a book’s cover, bar code, or QR code, using your mobile device’s camera, in order to view information related to the book. That information may include the book’s cover image, summary information, reading level, price, video or podcast about the book, and other book recommendations. To perform this function, the camera takes an image of the book cover, bar code or QR code and compares it to a database we have compiled of book covers, barcodes and QR codes for book titles available in our Fairs. If the image is a match, results are displayed. Matching images are deleted after they are no longer necessary to perform the match or to improve the image recognition service. Images that do not match are discarded by the app.

This app includes a wish list feature, where students and adults can create lists of books of interest to them. Links are available within the app for adults to purchase books through the Scholastic Book Fair of their choice. In order to complete a purchase, the app links to two Scholastic websites: Scholastic Online Book Fairs at bookfairs.scholastic.com for online Fairs, or if your Book Fair is offline or if you are purchasing Storia eBooks, the Scholastic Store Online at store.scholastic.com.

An adult user can select a Scholastic Book Fair by using the mobile device’s GPS location or by entering a local zip code. Scholastic uses this information to find and display nearby Scholastic Book Fairs that are open. This information is required so that your school can earn rewards from Scholastic for the purchases made, and so that we know where to ship your purchase. We do not save the GPS or zip code information. Each Scholastic Book Fair has an ID number in our system, and we do save the Scholastic Book Fair ID that is ultimately selected through the Fair check-in process.

Eligible users have the option of using a built-in Twitter or Facebook feature to share that you have checked in at the local Scholastic Book Fair. Scholastic does not save any information about your Twitter or Facebook accounts through these widgets.

Within the app, we may ask for (but do not save) a user’s date of birth to determine whether it’s appropriate for a child to use a particular feature. This app does not ask for personally identifiable information from children under the age of 13, and we will not intentionally collect any. If Scholastic learns that we have inadvertently collected personally identifiable information from a child under the age of 13, we will take steps to delete it promptly.

Additionally, Scholastic uses tracking technologies to determine how our app is being used by our visitors and to improve and customize it for our users, as described in more detail in the Scholastic.com Privacy Policy. We use third party service providers to assist us in collecting and understanding app usage information. This data is stored anonymously and in aggregate and is not associated with any specific customer.

The items the application tracks in aggregate include:

• Number of uses of the app including new visitors, repeat visitors, geographic location and device type
• Instances of books scanned, searched or wish-listed, the type of scan, number of times, and time spent viewing the results
• Number and percentage of podcast and video views, in order to gauge performance and popularity of these features
• Referrals to purchase in one of our stores

This app uses the services of Qualcomm Connected Experiences, Inc. (“QCE”), to perform image recognition services for the scanned book cover images. For information about data collected by QCE, its affiliates and service providers and how it is used, please see the End User License Agreement for the app.
