Being away from Heartland has been anything but easy for Amy Fleming. The work at the horse sanctuary was her life for years. Now she is in a pre-vet program, and she has new challenges and new friends. Amy refuses to believe anything has changed. But as soon as she's come home for spring break and been reunited with her boyfriend, Ty, she gets a call from another vet student. Will Savage is on a ranch in Colorado where there's a horse that needs Amy's help. Torn between her old life and her new one, Amy has to decide. But, in the end, she learns that she isn't the only one who is moving on.

Even at graduation, Amy cannot concentrate
on her accomplishments. She is distracted by her concern for
a sick horse back at Heartland. College is weeks away, but she
dreads having to leave her home and her work at the stable -
the work she took over after her mother's death. It doesn't
help that Lou, Joni, and Ty - her boyfriend - are already making
decisions without her, anticipating life after she is away at
school.
When a new horse arrives for treatment, everyone seems wary
of telling Amy his story. As she starts to treat him, his fear
seems a mystery.

As Amy's sister Lou is finalizing her wedding
details, Amy is contemplating her own plans for the future.
She is a senior, and the scores for the SAT that she had taken
to appease her grandfather have arrived and are unexpectedly
impressive. Now Amy, who had never considered her life beyond
Heartland, is thinking of college - but chooses not to reveal
this struggle to her family or Ty. With the distraction of a
lost pony that unexpectedly shows up one snowy morning, and
the constant arrival of wedding gifts, Amy is able to conceal
her secret, but soon life will force her to make a decision.

After Amy hears of the death of her mentor,
she is surprised when his granddaughter, Carey, mysteriously
invites her to visit. Amy is eager to return to the serene stables,
and Ty agrees to go with her. Once they arrive, Amy seeks out
Carey and assumes she wants help with her mustang, Maverick.
Yet Carey is nowhere to be found, and she seems to be avoiding
both her pony and Amy. So Amy immerses herself in barn work.
But it isn't the horses who need her help. When she finally
takes time to understand her friend's issues, she is forced
to see her own future in a whole new way.

It's December, and Amy can't help but remember
the last holiday she spent with her mother. Back then, Amy was
training Sundance, the feisty pony they had rescued from an
auction. While Sundance had proven to be a talent in the show
ring, he was still impossible to handle in the stable. Frustrated
by the pony's attitude and her mother's rigorous training schedule,
Amy is lacking holiday - and Heartland - spirit. But then, Sundance
falls ill. As Amy watches over him, she is finally able to glimpse
the vulnerable pony's true heart - and understand the precious
gift she shares with her mother.

When Ty's father, Brad, makes an emergency
stop at Heartland with his truck, Amy is horrified to discover
what he's transporting. Inside the trailer are seven dehydrated
horses, crammed in the rank, stifling conditions. While the
Heartland team works to revive the animals, Amy discovers that
Brad -- who had never supported Ty's work at Heartland -- is
willing to take a stand against his company management in order
to prevent the return of the horses to unfit owners. As the
horses slowly recover at Heartland, Amy witnesses another miraculous
healing -- between Ty and his father.

Just when Amy feels that things are back to
normal at Heartland, an injured police horse named Venture arrives.
Venture's partner, Sergeant Garcia, is desperate to help the
wounded gelding. Amy convinces the policeman to put his trust
in Heartland's methods. But when Amy's tried-and-true remedies
have no effect on Venture, she is the one who loses faith. Before
she can reach a breakthrough, Amy must open herself up to new
possibilities and learn to believe in the power of change.

When Amy journeys to Australia with her sister
Lou to visit their father on his horse ranch, she has difficulty
feeling a part of his new family. Lou gets along easily with
his wife and three-year-old daughter, Lily, but Amy can't look
past the fact that she was just three when her father left.
So Amy delves into the stablework. But when she reaches a breakthrough
with one of the jumpers, the other trainers resent her success.
Amy laments that she can't do anything right away from Heartland.
It takes a family crisis for Amy to discover she can claim new
roles - and make new friends.

With Ty in the hospital, Amy is struggling
to keep up with her Heartland chores and stay positive. Then
a new horse arrives - a wild Mustang who was purchased at a
round-up out West. He has a beautiful, independent spirit. Amy
has always had a sense of how to approach strong-willed horses.
With time, even the most defensive and fierce horses have grown
to understand her and have yearned to reach out to her and make
a bond. But this horse is different. He isn't angry or misunderstood.
He is proud. When Amy watches him gaze into the distance, she
wonders if he was meant to be wild and free.

An equine flu is infecting Heartland’s horses.
Amy and Ty try to isolate the oldest and youngest horses --
the ones with weaker immune systems -- but more fall ill. Ty
and Ben are at odds, and Amy feels caught in the middle. Then,
just as some horses start to get better and the weather is about
to break, things spin out of control. When the clouds clear
away, nothing seems the same.

Amy’s dreams have come true. She is working
with damaged horses and showing in high-level jumping competitions.
It’s all because of Storm, the talented dapple gray thoroughbred
that was a gift from Amy’s father. But having it all isn’t always

at Heartland and dedicate herself to the show world. Storm needs
more attention - so do the other horses. Sooner or later, she’ll
have to make a choice.

When Ashley Grant shows up uninvited at Heartland,
Amy is suspicious. Ashley has been anything but nice in the
past, and now she is asking for a favor. She wants Amy to help
train Bright Magic, a showy European jumper recently purchased
by her mom. Despite Amy's cloudy relationship with the Grants,
she accepts the challenge, knowing that helping horses is her
first priority. And as Amy starts to work with Ashley, she is
forced to see her bitter old rival in a whole new way.

When Amy meets Daniel, she is stunned by his
defensive nature. She can't figure out how someone with so much
love for his horse could be so cold to everyone else. But as
