Overview

Kids love it when adults read to them. But kids learn to love reading when they choose books for themselves.

Built around the pillars of kid power, community, and access, Scholastic Book Fairs give students access to affordable, popular books from hundreds of publishers, with an emphasis on award-winners, bestselling series, exclusive editions, and lower-priced formats.

From its nationwide network of 40+ warehouses, Scholastic delivers its fairs to schools in mobile, easy-to-access cases, with titles displayed face-front and grouped by age or grade level so it’s easy for kids to find characters and topics they love. We provide everything volunteers need—seasonal planning materials, promotional tools, and merchandising displays— to help transform their school spaces into vibrant pop-up bookstores.

Widely celebrated as the 'Best Week of the School Year', these milestone events rally educators, families, and the local community around kids reading, while directly benefiting schools, which receive a portion of the funds raised for their classrooms, libraries, and educational resources—impacting students and communities for years to come.

Key Highlights

Scholastic Book Fairs ignite reading through the power of choice, kid-centric curation, and immersive experiences. Independent exploration allows kids to select books that match their interests, doubling the likelihood they will finish and enjoy their selections. According to the Scholastic Kids & Family Reading Report: 8th Edition, 93% of kids ages 6 to 17 say their favorite books are those they pick out themselves, and 92% say they are more likely to finish books they personally select.

Every Book Fair features a carefully curated assortment of titles, hand-selected by an expert team of former educators, booksellers, and company veterans. The collection is continuously refreshed to include the most popular titles from more than 150 publishers, with a focus on exclusive formats, award-winners, diverse voices, and Spanish-language options.

Scholastic Book Fairs have long provided access to diverse stories and creators so that every child can see themselves and the world around them in a book. Since 1981, we’ve featured award-winning, influential books such as Bud, Not Buddy, Esperanza Rising, My Brother Martin, I Am Malala, Wonder, and One Crazy Summer. We’ve also introduced kids to authors and illustrators like Christopher Paul Curtis, Angie Thomas, Pam Muñoz Ryan, Kelly Yang, Sayantani DasGupta, Jason Reynolds, and many others, ensuring their stories reach millions of kids who might not have discovered them otherwise.

Scholastic Book Fairs help eliminate the economic barriers that undermine childhood reading through programs like Share the Fair and Sponsored Fairs, which deliver more than 1 million free books annually to under-resourced schools. In the last decade alone, Scholastic Book Fairs have helped raise over $2 billion in resources and books for America’s schools.

Impact Programs

Share the Fair makes it easy for schools to support students who need help buying new books, ensuring every student can participate. School communities can contribute funds at checkout, round up purchases at the register, or contribute via their child’s Book Fair eWallet to help send every student home with a book from the fair.

Through our Sponsored Fairs program, schools partner with organizations and donors to bring free Book Fairs to under-resourced schools, so more students can experience the joy of discovering and choosing new books.

Scholastic's eWallet is a secure, cashless payment option for students to shop at Book Fairs. Parents can create a free account on their school's Book Fair homepage, add funds via credit card, and invite family and friends to contribute. Any unused funds convert to an eGift card balance for future use.
