What you need:
- posterboard
- photos
- drawings
- cut-out magazine photos
- art materials
What to do:
- Share a book about self-esteem with your child, such as I'm Gonna Like Me: Letting Off a Little Self-Esteem by Jamie Lee Curtis.
- Invite your child to write her name in the center of a piece of posterboard. Then ask her to select a favorite photo of herself and paste it on the poster near her name.
- Talk to your child about the many special things that are unique to her, such as her voice, her footprints, and her handprints. Then discuss things that have meaning to her. Invite her to add representations of these things to her poster in the form of photos, drawings, and pictures cut out from magazines, as well as her hand- and footprints.
- The poster doesn't have to be done all at once — it can be an ongoing project that your child adds to over time.
