3 Edgar Allan Poe Books for Halloween-Themed Lessons for Older Students

Though older students may be too old for costume parades and pumpkin crafts, they still get excited about Halloween. Reading Edgar Allan Poe is a great way to channel this enthusiasm and put a literary-focused spin on the spooky season.

There are no bones about it, older kids get excited about Halloween too. Rather than trying to curb this enthusiasm, use it to teach the gothic fiction works of Edgar Allan Poe. After a brief introduction of your chosen piece of Poe’s work, provide 8-10 writing prompts inspired by the poems or stories in his books for students to work on their own spooky storytelling or poetry. Reading the works aloud is a great way to get everyone into the spirit of Halloween!
