Engaging STEAM Books for Kids

From engaging biographies about scientists and mathematicians to titles focusing on how machinery works or the complexities of space, STEAM books open up entire new worlds for readers of all ages and stages.

For example, younger students will love learning about the beauty of the earth within Volcanoes. This beautiful book with its gorgeous illustrations leads children on an adventure deep into different types of volcanoes — from ones on the seafloor to extraterrestrial supervolcanoes in the solar system — and teaches them all about their inner workings through rhyme and whimsy.

There’s also Ray’s Big Day, which tells the story of a beam of sunlight traveling through space for the very first time. This picture book, perfect for kids in grades 1-3, can help teach STEM concepts through engaging text and sweet illustrations. Meanwhile, older readers will be inspired by Hidden Figures, the true story of the African American women mathematicians who helped NASA launch the first men into space in the 1960s. Students will learn about Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan, and Mary Jackson, who were responsible for the work it took to win the Space Race.
