Featuring their family, friends and richly diverse neighborhood, each story revolves around Maya's well-intentioned meddling in the lives of her family and friends, always placing her in an interesting and often hilarious predicament. (check local listings) Targeted at children aged 6-8, the overall educational goals of Maya & Miguel are: 1. To promote the value of a culturally diverse society by supporting, respecting and validating the variety of perspectives, traditions, languages and experiences that populate today's world. Maya & Miguel achieves this by presenting the world as a cultural mosaic; and, fostering a positive attitude in viewers toward others who are different from them. 2. To support English language acquisition and usage in personal, social and cultural interactions, with a special emphasis on vocabulary. The show supports this by presenting strategies and modeling usage necessary to communicate effectively in English in a variety of social settings, and in socially and culturally appropriate ways.
